The best walking and fitness apps for iPhone Duo: 8 that confirm support

SHORT ANSWER

Short answer: Just Walk is the best-documented walking app for iPhone Duo, and PulseZones and Beatcast lead for workouts. On 9 October 2026, only 7 walking or fitness apps we found on the US App Store had their maker's word that they support iPhone Duo. Strava, Nike Run Club and Apple Fitness had said nothing yet. Chonky Corgo (ours) had its Duo version in testing.

iPhone Duo went on sale on 23 October 2026, and Apple only started accepting apps built for it on 5 October. So when we checked, the list of walking and fitness apps rebuilt for the fold was short. On 9 October we searched the US App Store with 40 fitness searches, read the release notes and descriptions of 5,080 apps, and found 7 walking or workout apps whose makers say they support iPhone Duo.

Nobody could buy an iPhone Duo on that date, so nothing here is scored by feel. The list ranks what each maker has put in writing, with the app's real App Store rating. A disclosure: we make Chonky Corgo, a walking game. It is #4 because we put it there, and its entry says what it does not do yet.

Which walking and fitness apps support iPhone Duo?

Seven walking, step and fitness apps had a primary source on 9 October 2026. Just Walk, PulseZones and Beatcast describe their Duo layouts in detail. CardioBot, Steps, Step AI and Gentler Streak say less, or said it before Apple accepted iPhone Duo builds. Chonky Corgo, our walking game, has its Duo version in testing.

How did we rank the 8 apps?

An app made the list only if its maker says in writing that it supports iPhone Duo, and if it helps you walk, count steps, work out or train. We ordered them by how much of the device that note describes, and by whether it came after 5 October. Number 4 breaks the rule: it is our game.

What are the best walking and fitness apps for iPhone Duo?

Here are the eight, each with its real App Store rating and our short take. The takes are ours, based on what each maker documents rather than on hands-on use. The ratings were earned on other iPhones, because nobody had an iPhone Duo on 9 October, so they tell you about the app, not its fold.

1. Just Walk: Interval Walking

Just Walk describes more poses than any other walking app we found. Its App Store description has a section called 'Built for iPhone Duo'. Closed, it looks as it does on any iPhone. Open and upright, it is the same layout at full size. Turned sideways, your step ring sits beside your day. Half folded like a laptop mid-walk, the phase and time sit on the top half, and your pace and controls on the bottom, clear of the crease.

Just Walk coaches Japanese interval walking: three minutes fast, three minutes slow, with a live steps-per-minute target for the fast stretches. If you want to know what pace counts as brisk, our guide to steps per minute for brisk walking has the research. The weaknesses: 3 ratings, Duo support described in the listing rather than in the 1.5 release notes, and coaching built around Apple Watch taps.

Rating: 5.0 from 3 ratings. Price: free, with Just Walk Pro at $0.99 a month or $9.99 a year, and a $2.99 Streak Shield.

2. Heart Rate Zones: PulseZones

PulseZones' 8 October update, version 2.8, gives the inner screen two panes. Your week sits beside your zone bars, and during a workout the live heart rate ring sits beside your zone breakdown. Folded, everything fits the outer screen. You set a weekly minutes goal for each heart rate zone and train with live zones on your Apple Watch. It suits zone 2 walkers and runners, but it is built around heart rate zones, not steps.

Rating: 5.0 from 3 ratings. Price: free, with PulseZones Pro at $4.99 a month, $29.99 a year or $59.99 once.

3. Beatcast: Heart Rate Monitor

Beatcast has the most physical idea on this list. Its 7 October update says that half folded on a table, your heart rate fills the top half and big buttons sit below at thumb height. That matches the pose Apple's iPhone Duo page calls Seated: set the phone down to follow a workout, with the controls at the bottom. Our poses guide shows Seated beside the other six. Beatcast reads a Bluetooth heart rate strap or band, or a fingertip reading, and its version history names AirPods Pro 3 and Powerbeats Pro 2 as sources too.

The catch: Beatcast has no ratings yet, and after a 14-day trial, live heart rate and recording need a one-time purchase.

Rating: no ratings yet. Price: free for 14 days, then $7.99 once.

4. Chonky Corgo (ours)

Chonky Corgo is our walking RPG: your daily steps from Apple Health charge attacks on pixel monsters and move a story forward. Our iPhone Duo version, 2.1, was in testing on 9 October and was not on the App Store that day. Held sideways and open, it shows two pages side by side, such as the battle beside your day. Playtime has 11 small toys you play by folding the phone, and rewards open in a treasure chest whose lid follows the hinge.

Chonky Corgo full screen on an open iPhone Duo held sideways: the Walk battle on the left and today's streak and quests on the right, with the tabs in a column on the right edge.
Two pages side by side: the battle beside your day. Chonky Corgo (ours) on the iPhone Duo simulator, test build for version 2.1.

The weaknesses, plainly. On 9 October the App Store version was 2.0.0, released on 30 September, before Apple accepted iPhone Duo builds. Chonky Corgo is a game, not a tracker, so it records no workouts and reads no heart rate. It had no ratings that day, and signed-in players 18 and older see one small banner ad until they turn it off in Settings or buy No Banner Ads. What a walking RPG is explains the kind of game it is.

Rating: no ratings yet. Price: free, with in-app purchases (Chonky Club, No Banner Ads and Gems).

5. CardioBot: Heart Rate Monitor

CardioBot is the most-rated app on this list, with 10,442 ratings. Its 6 October update, version 8.6, says its dashboard, charts and insights now adapt to every screen size, from iPhone and the new iPhone Duo layout to iPad. That is one sentence, with no detail about the fold. CardioBot explains what your Apple Watch measures, like heart rate, HRV and recovery. It does not record a walk.

Rating: 4.5 from 10,442 ratings. Price: free, with subscriptions at $1.99 a week, $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year.

6. Steps: Workout & Pedometer

Steps has the most detailed iPhone Duo notes of any step counter we found. Open the phone and Home becomes a dashboard with larger insights beside a History calendar. A workout opens with its stats on one side so the map can take the rest of the inner screen. But version 1.32 is dated 10 September 2026, nearly four weeks before Apple accepted iPhone Duo builds, so we cannot confirm those layouts are in the version you download.

Rating: 4.6 from 50 ratings. Price: free, with Steps Pro at $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $39.99 once.

7. Steps App - Step AI Pedometer

Step AI's 6 October update, version 1.2.2, has a three-word release note: 'iPhone Duo Support'. It is a step counter built on Apple Health, with an AI coach that comments on your progress through the day. The date is right, after Apple accepted iPhone Duo builds, but three words tell you nothing about what the fold does.

Rating: 4.4 from 5 ratings. Price: free, with Step AI+ at $14.99 or $39.99 a year.

8. Gentler Streak Workout Tracker

Gentler Streak is the best-known name here. It won a 2024 Apple Design Award, and its guidance adapts to what you can do each day. Its 1 October update, version 5.13.3, says Gentler Streak 'can now fit any screen size, also the iPhone Duo when it comes out.' That came before Apple accepted iPhone Duo builds, and the 8 October update does not mention iPhone Duo.

Rating: 4.7 from 8,825 ratings. Price: free, with Gentler Premium at $8.99 a month, plus yearly and lifetime options ($89.99 for life).

Do Apple Fitness and Apple Health support iPhone Duo?

Apple has not documented it. On 9 October 2026, Apple's iPhone Duo announcement, iPhone Duo page and design guidelines did not describe Fitness, Health or the Workout app on the fold. The closest line is on the iPhone Duo page: set the phone down to follow a workout, with the controls at the bottom.

Apple's built-in apps will run on the device, but we only list apps whose behaviour on iPhone Duo is written down, so Apple's fitness apps are not in the table. That may change once people have the phone.

Which big fitness apps have not said anything yet?

Most of them. On 9 October 2026, the current release notes for Strava, Nike Run Club, Peloton, AllTrails, Map My Walk, Fitbod, Pedometer++, StepsApp, WeWard, Sweatcoin, Pikmin Bloom, Pokemon GO, Walkr, Fantasy Hike and Zombies, Run! did not mention iPhone Duo. Two more came close:

  • PaceBoard: Run & Walk Tracker. Version 5.0, dated 14 September, says 'iPhone Duo support incoming in 5.1'. Version 5.1 was not out on 9 October.
  • Heart Rate Insights. Version 1.5, 7 October, shows heart rate charts and summaries side by side on iPhone Duo. We left it out because it is built to review your heart rate history, not to guide walks or workouts.

Is iPhone Duo a good phone for walking?

For the walk itself, probably no better than any iPhone. Our guess is that you will carry it closed on most walks, and Steps, Step AI and Chonky Corgo all read your steps from Apple Health. The big screen matters before and after a walk. That is the tradeoff: a foldable helps you look at your walking, not do it.

If your step counts look different between apps, the phone is rarely the reason. Our guide to why step counts differ explains how Apple Health picks between your iPhone and Apple Watch. And if you want a game that turns those steps into something, our walking games guide compares the main ones. For apps beyond fitness, see our list of the best apps for iPhone Duo.

What else do people ask?

Three questions people ask before they move their walking and workout routine to an iPhone Duo. The answers come from the App Store and Apple's own pages, read on 9 October 2026, so check the date before you rely on them.

Does Strava support iPhone Duo?
Not in writing on 9 October 2026. Strava's current release notes, version 484.0.0 from 7 October, did not mention iPhone Duo. It will still run on the device, but Strava has not said how it uses the fold.
Will my step count change on iPhone Duo?
It should not change because of the fold. Steps, Step AI and Chonky Corgo read your steps from Apple Health, the same as on any iPhone. Counts can still differ between apps for the reasons our step count guide explains.
Is Chonky Corgo's iPhone Duo version out yet?
Not on 9 October 2026. The App Store version is 2.0.0, which came out before Apple accepted iPhone Duo builds. The two-page layouts, Playtime's fold toys and the hinge treasure chest are in version 2.1, which was in testing on that date.
